    A long wednesday

Have you ever had one of those days where it begins bad and the day continues to go downhill from there? This was my day, it started with Alexa not understanding me when I asked her to snooze till 6.35am. Then once up I went to get my little girl out of bed. In her sleep she managed to slap me in the mouth and then my bottom lip started to bleed. I am terrible with blood so really not a good start to the day.  After the usual stress of getting the children to school, I drove to work.  It was late morning when I realised my 7 year olds lunch box was still in the car.  Too far away from school to take it to him, I phoned and asked them to give him school dinner. My heart sank when they told me that today was roast chicken. My son will not eat that, burgers yes, sausages yes, but a nice roast chicken dinner, no. Why are children so fussy?

The rest of my day has been life as normal, just long and exhausting.  My son refused to read and said he was to tired. He did go straight to bed tonight but his school uniform tells the story of the boy who a few hours earlier was rolling around his grandparents garden with their dog. White shirt is covered in dirt marks, note to self to try and remember to add vanish to the wash. Why do kids not look after their clothes? Causing us to spend more money on having to buy them new, just for them to get ruined again. They also seem to love loosing them. I have often had to ask the school about missing fleeces and jumpers. We currently have a pink Peppa Pig scarf missing  but I think I’m the most bothered about the loss.

Yesterday we had the drama of parents afternoon. Both teachers had good reports on the children. However, one of the staff had put a chair with wheels on it outside my daughter’s classroom. This meant that instead of them sitting quietly whilst looking at her work books, they were riding up and down the corridor on the chair.  They were having a lot of fun but then arguing over who was going to ride and who was going to push. There was a lot of laughing and shouting and then one of their friends joined in. Meanwhile the teacher is trying to talk to a parent in the classroom.  All my pleading with them to just leave the chair alone was ignored. Why do children love to be so disruptive?

Once in the classroom talking to her teacher, both kids run off outside to play in the sand pit, making a lovely mess. Soon after was time to see my sons teacher. Whilst waiting outside they found some beads. His teacher kindly agreed to them keeping them making both kids very happy.

The beads added to our morning drama today. Trying to get out of the house, my 7 year old remembers the beads and wants them. They then started hunting for them, with myself and daddy getting frustrated with them as we were late. Not sure where they have put them, but thankfully they gave up hunting and left the house and got in the car for school. Why do kids always have to look for something at the last minute? It’s always right at the last minute they remember something and then have to have it. So many times we have left the house with a favourite toy or something grabbed on the way out.  I often have toys in the back of the car, riding with me during my work day.

So tonight both children went straight to sleep.  Unusual in this house and nice to have peace earlier in the evening. I have not had to go up and down the stairs this evening. Maybe tomorrow they will be less tired at school, and we will not leave his lunch in the car. He ate very little of his dinner and when I gave him his packed lunch he happily shared it with his little sister.

Now the end of a long day, I like this time. Kids asleep and feet up in my recliner. Husband often goes to bed before me as he does not like the soaps, meaning I get time alone which is nice.  I have always been a bit of a loner and sometimes I do like just to be by myself. Sitting quietly with my own thoughts and having full control over the television. Once I give up on the evening and go to bed and sleep, it is then morning again, all to soon. Back to the morning stress and the usual on going routine.
