Today is Friday and i’ve been feeling glum,
Sitting feeling sorry for myself feeling tired and done.
I’ve been sat here looking at the winter weather,
Whilst trying to read The Foreigner. a book by Stephen Leather.
A few days ago I managed to buy the film with Jackie Chan,
It has some subtitles but is in English, I am a real huge fan.
I sat and read but with the tiredness I just wanted to sleep,
The pages blurred and I gave up, before I got to deep.
So soon there I was with thoughts going around my head,
Lying there, comfortable feeling warm in my bed.
Sleep soon filled my head with dreams and then they were disturbed
As Alexa then rang the alarm bell, I really felt quite perturbed.
I got up and looked at my daughter’s untidy room,
The mess is not inviting, it is a mess again too soon.
Teddy bears, toys and clothes all scattered on the floor,
It is an obstacle course to reach the wardrobe doors.
Why will our 5 year old not tidy her mess?
Instead of mummy feeling upset and distressed.
My day was soon over and I had to collect the children,
Had to drive to school then stand and wait before I could take them.
Our daughter was really happy, as proudly our little leader,
Told me her reading has improved and she’s now on Accelerated Reader.
The excitement of the reading was then doubled by our son,
Who is doing well with his numbers and finding them real fun.
Once home I really hoped that they would tidy their rooms,
Our son he did protest but he did not refuse.
My daughter she looked at it but then she stood and cried,
Happy to climb over her toy mountain, wanting to play and hide.
The children they will so rarely do as they are told,
As I stand here, watching them, feeling grey and old.
So here we are and the kids still have their messy rooms,
They are now both asleep and morning will be here all too soon.
The weekend will bring homework and more arguments and stress,
The work goes on, so busy, no time for mum to rest.
Tomorrow will bring washing and Sunday then the ironing,
A mum’s job is never done, I rarely feel I’m winning.
I hope we can have some quality time and spend some time together,
Make some happy memories our ties we will never sever.
Playing with the lego or maybe with the train’s,
Maybe we will go outside if it doesn’t rain.
The homework it still needs to be completed,
Despite all the stress it presents, we will not be defeated.
So now it is late, I’m going to find my bed,
Hoping sleep will ease the pain in my head.
Tomorrow I hope will be a better day,
So as they say, i’m now going to bed and hit the hay.
Sitting here now writing my poetry,
I’m feeling calm and quiet, now it’s time for me.
For more see, Another long Wednesday

Thankyou Linda.

The advice I was given when my son refused to do his homework: – It’s his problem and not your problem. If the school gives any punishments for not completing homework, then perhaps after a few of them your kids will change their minds!

Ha ha, good advice. However my struggle at the moment is getting them to tidy their rooms. My son will tidy, not perfect, but he tries. My daughter refuses. I can then spend an afternoon tidying it, just for her to mess it up again a while later. Would be nice if she will just tidy it and realise how much work tidying it really is. Then maybe keep it tidy, wishful thinking I think.

It got to the stage where I didn’t bother. I would iron my son’s clothes and hang them up in the wardrobe, then he’d look for something and they’d all end up in a heap on the floor. By the time he was 17 I’d take the clothes out of the drier and add them to the pile on the floor of his room. He didn’t care, and I’d shut his door and try and forget about it. When he was 19 his girlfriend would come round and hang them all up! Now he’s 36 and moans at his daughters to tidy their rooms! What goes around comes around…

See I’m getting to the not bothering stage now and she’s 5..I’m climbing over toys and bears to get anywhere, plus clean clothes and dirty clothes.. for now the tidy your room arguement continues..

Let it go and shut the door on it. You and she will be much happier!

Ha ha, it has almost got to that point, hence the extreme mess.

Are you feeling glum because it’s wintertime, dark, wet, and awful?
I’ve never had kids so can only imagine the sort of patience a parent needs – just need to look back on my own childhood.

Yes the weather does not help and the children just wont do as they are asked, so feeling generally low! I;m still trying to motivate myself to tidy her my daughters room.. right now I’m shutting the door on it, thanks!

Ha, ha, I’d be doing the same! Go and have a nice cuppa instead and some ‘me’ time. 😉

My daughter really hated cleaning her room when she was little. It did get a little better as she got older and was buying stuff with her own money! Thanks for sharing with us at The Blogger’s Pit Stop!

Thanks for your comment, well hopefully mine will improve too. At the moment she is happy to play in the mess, Things get lost under a sea of bears…

Ahhhhh 6 kids and 13 grandchildren later…It doesn’t get any better..They are either tidy or not and all your stressing will not change that and at 5 she has time to start being tidier..As others have said just close the door and tidy it once a week…Or make a chart with stars for jobs completed and a little gift/treat at the end of each month 🙂

Thanks Carol, it takes hours to tidy it. We tried the reward chart and it didn’t work. Wow 6 children, I struggle with two. Hopefully she will start to be tidier as she grows up, thankyou!

Wow…such determination to do their own thing has to be applauded it is just difficult when you are on the recieving end…I think you just need to try reverse psychology keep the door shut and find a quietplace to meditate 🙂 Good Luck 🙂
