    Monday craft

Monday again today, groundhog day again, or groundhog morning. I woke my daughter, helped her get dressed and we went downstairs. Daddy was sat enjoying the lights of the Christmas tree and my 7 year old was as usual on the iPad. The children ate their toast and we then finished getting ready for school. It was then we realised that we could not find our son’s lunch box. Things were so hectic on Friday when we got home that we hadn’t noticed that we did not have it. We searched the kitchen and the car and it was not there. I had it in my hand on Friday afternoon in his classroom.  He had lost his school fleece jacket and we stopped to talk to his teacher. I must have put it down and then forgot it as my son found it at school.

It is so easy to get distracted and then lose something. I nearly lost my mobile phone a few days ago delivering Christmas cards.  I had left it on someone’s doorstep, thankfully I remembered it as I reached the pavement.

We got out of the door on time and left daddy at work. Then we drove to school, once parked we sat in the car talking and listened to Chris Rea’s, driving home for Christmas, before going in.

We walked into the breakfast club, the school Christmas tree shining as we walked into the hall. I left them ordering their breakfast, my 5 year old was excited because she saw they had Weetabix. I left them both and started my work day, the traffic today was heavy around the town. My day was busy and productive, but I’m glad that the work day is over.

The children had a good day at school. My 7 year old was upset because the school had had a craft afternoon and parents had been invited. He was hoping that I might come but I was at work and had forgotten about it. Being so close to Christmas and a weeks leave next week I could not have attended as too much to do. The fish in the featured image was made by my son this afternoon.

I mended by daughters carebear for her. I have asked her to please look after him and not make another hole, she was surprised to see his hole stitched overIt was lucky that I had the right colour blue thread. I struggle with invisible thread which was my other option.

The children have  Christmas dinner on Wednesday and are allowed to wear Christmas jumpers. Unfortunately, I have left this a bit late, my daughter already has a jumper but I needed to find one for my son. I panic bought one from Asda in size 7 – 8 which is his exact size, he is a June birthday.  Usually I would buy the next size up so he has room to grow, he will soon be too big for this one. He is happy with it, but it is typical that they didn’t have size 8 – 9.  I think I need to prepare for Christmas jumper day in advance next year.

My daughter read her book this evening, my son has left his at school along with his spellings. We need to make sure we practice them properly this week and learn them as last week was a rush on Thursday night.

Both children were awkward going to bed tonight. Jumping around and bouncing on their beds. My son was the most tired and he was the first to lie in bed and pull up the duvet. I left my daughter drawing and colouring in her book, she would not just go to sleep.

I have had a few problems with the driver side tyre on my car. It keeps losing air pressure, slowly but it is losing. Tonight I was walking around my car in my pyjamas, wellies, coat and air compressor, trying to get the front tyres to about 37psi or 2.6 bar. It’s hard because I know they lose pressure in the cold and gain when it is hot. The pressures have been tested when the car is still warm, so maybe not to accurate and tonight they were cold. I wish I knew more about cars, all I know is how to drive them.

Daddy meanwhile was looking after the kids trying to convince them to go to bed. I’m not sure whether to take it to a tyre garage in the morning as I do not want a big bill, especially if I’m stressing over nothing.  However last week in the space of a week they lost about 3.5psi or is this just a temperature thing? Yes, I am a worrier.

So it is my day off tomorrow, I can either do the shopping or take my car to the garage. It would help if daddy had helped check the tyres over the last week but hey maybe I am just as capable.   It would be nice to do neither tomorrow and just relax and do nothing. However, if I do go to the garage at least they can put my mind at rest.

Anyway, I am now going to go and get some rest, ready for the challenges of tomorrow morning and being mum.

    Sunday tree in the house

Sunday morning started in the same way that it always does, apart from today I was jumped on at 8.00am by my son asking when we were putting up the Christmas tree. He has been asking for weeks and I had agreed we would do it today. I lay in bed trying to force the will to get out from under my duvet.

A few days ago my 5 year old told me that her Wish bear care bear has a hole in his back. Today I sat on Google trying to work out how to repair him. I came to the conclusion that Teddy bear hospitals would be too expensive. Then I looked at Amazon to buy her a new one and large Wish bear is no longer available. I think I am going to just have to do my best to stitch it. Stuffing was in her bed and on the bathroom floor last night so poor Wish bear is likely to lose more if I don’t do something, he is now on my to-do list.

Getting out of bed I went and made myself some breakfast and sat and drank my coffee. I then sorted out the ironing, whilst listening to Christmas music. My 7 year old lay on the iPad watching me, willing me to hurry up as he wanted the tree to be put up. Once completed I hung the clothes in the kid’s wardrobes, then got the ladder to go up into the loft.

Climbing into the loft I found the Christmas tree and heavy box of decorations. One year we might buy a real tree but for now, the plastic one is easier. I passed daddy the heavy box through the loft hatch. Yesterday my 7 year old had offered to help me get the decorations down, I think today he realised that I was telling the truth when I said that I needed daddy to help me.

Finally, he had got what he wanted and we were putting the tree up. Arguments over tinsel and baubles, whether the Angel will sit on the top or the star. Yesterday I bought some new Christmas lights. I have had the previous ones for about 20 years and on both of them, they should have a white fuse bulb. Last year one set stopped working and we could not work out which bulb had gone and could not find a white one. The other set still works but the white bulb is also missing. The new blue lights have eight different sequences and they make a big difference to the tree.

The Father Christmas and Snowman in the featured image were bought in the January sales, they are now looking effective on our fireplace.  I also bought teddy bear lights now hanging over our mirror.

The front room now looks like Christmas and the Christmas cards are steadily arriving adding to the magic.

The children both read their books today and they both ate their dinner, lasagne. Despite our 7 year old complaining that he did not like the white sauce, he asked for more and then ate most of it.

Putting them to bed my little boy went to sleep quickly, he was tired. My daughter is still awake and it is now 9.00pm. She has come back downstairs a few times and I have carried her back to bed. I can hear her now talking to herself, I am assuming she is playing with her toys, hopefully not drawing on her wall.

So we have achieved decorating for Christmas, another job done. Do you know why we put trees in our houses at Christmas?  Pagans decorate the branches during the winter solstice as it makes them think of the spring to come. Christians use it as a sign of everlasting life with God. The lights symbolise Christ being the light of the world. Electric lights became popular in the early 20th century. Putting candles on the tree dates back to the 17th century, it originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe. Now we use electric lights there are fewer fires caused by candles at Christmas.

Monday again tomorrow, another busy day. One more week to go before Christmas and a week off work. The children’s last day at school is Friday.  All the bags are now ready for the morning, ready to be grabbed as we walk out of the door.

I am now going to go and get some rest. Build up some energy so I have the strength for work tomorrow and the stress of Monday morning.

    Saturday birthday parties

Saturday again today and we had two parties to attend.  I got up knowing that we still had cards to write and I still had a present to wrap.  The children had got up early again with daddy. I went downstairs to the chaos of my family, carrying the cards and the presents.  My son was once again on the iPad, my daughter was already dressed for her parties and wanted to go now, now, now, but we still had a while to wait.  I then helped her to write the cards and we wrapped the second present. I could only find Christmas paper, so I had to use that, but it was Disney Princess so I am sure that is fine.

We left on time for the first party and queued through the Saturday traffic. Arriving we parked and walked in. The hall was full of busy kids and a bouncy castle in the corner.  There was a table of party food and cake, I immediately felt hungry. My daughter ran off across the hall in excitement, she loves bouncy castles.

    saturday birthday parties

She loves bouncy castles so much that here she is climbing the back wall. This little venture did end in tears as a friend pulled her down as concerned that she might fall over the top. My daughter did not understand the concern, she thought she had been told off and just wanted to climb. However, she did plenty of bouncing as well.

She was still upset when they started playing pass the parcel. I had to sit with her to get her to join in.  She sat there long enough to unwrap her layer and get some sweets and then lost interest. Some mums can safely leave their children at a party, I definitely can not as she still needs me there. I’m sure I would have had a phone call today if I had left her.

The little boy had a Minecraft birthday cake. They lit the candles and the silver tube on the top lit like a sparkler, sorry I did not photograph it quick enough.

His daddy held the cake as he blew, it was quite spectacular. This party also had bubbles and snow.

The magic of snow indoors alongside Christmas music finished the party off nicely. Despite the issue of climbing the wall on the bouncy castle, she had had a lovely time.

Do any other mums feel anxious around other mum’s that they do not really know? Well, this is me. I spent most of the party sat with other mums but too shy to make conversation. Desperate to talk but not knowing what to say. I feel envious of those people who can walk into a room and talk and easily make friends, I often sit there wanting to hide in the corner, to shy and nervous to speak. I feel a little relieved when others speak to me and involve me, otherwise, I say very little.

So on to the second party, very different from the first.

We went to a soft play,  which also had bowling. My daughter loved playing on the balls and crawling through the tubes.

This time I knew two other parents and the party girls mum was very friendly, so I was able to relax.  The children busied themselves in the tunnels whilst we sat and talked and ate sweets. The children were bought food, my daughter asked for a hot dog, which she then did not eat and I ate it for her.

The party girls dad did some bowling with the children, my daughter enjoyed rolling her ball down the bowling lane.

The birthday girl wore the hat above for most of her party, a very pretty birthday hat.

The little girl was bought a cake, very different from the first but I’m sure despite the difference all the children at both parties enjoyed themselves, they were all smilingI am now home and exhausted, the rain is raining hard outside and snow has been forecast. My daughter has been running around with her brother and is now eating her dinner, fish fingers and chips, meanwhile, I am not hungry, to full up on party food and hot dog.

I am hoping that both our children will go straight to bed this evening after their dinner. Maybe I will get a full evening tonight with my feet up in front of the television or I could read, I have plenty of books that I need to look at.

Tomorrow I have said that we will put up the Christmas tree, my 7 year old is very excited so I don’t think I can go back on that. I also have ironing to do and daddy still needs to finish writing the Christmas cards.

I am now going to start putting the children to bed. Then I plan and hope on a quiet relaxing evening. Then sleep, ready for a busy Sunday and the daily stress and hard work of being mum.
