Thursday Elf on the shelf

Thursday morning again, last day at work before Christmas and two more days left of school.  The morning started in the same way, my daughter again did not want to leave the warmth of her duvet. I got her dressed and we went downstairs, she had some toast and I had some cereal.  We got out of the house on time and drove to daddy’s work and school.

We arrived at school on time and went through my son’s spellings. My daughter meanwhile was climbing over the back seat. I then walked them into the breakfast club and left them waiting for their food.

My day was busy as usual, I am glad it is now over until New Year’s Eve. However, I still have presents to wrap and organise.

My son has been telling me stories about how his friends have elves. I find the concept of the elf on the shelf creepy. The thought that the elves are watching and reporting back to Santa, so I had not bought them before.  However, now my 7 year old knows about them and has asked for one it was time to give in and let them have elves.   I have read so much about how much hard work these two can be.  Trying to come up with different ideas for what mischief they could be up to. Elf on the shelf started in America and has spread to the UK.

There are so many different elves at the moment in the shops, some look a little bit evil.  I thought these two looked friendly but the question is how naughty are they? My son has told me about how his friend’s elves move.  These two will have to move as well but I am going to need to do some thinking about what they could be doing. Maybe daddy has some good ideas, I think I have set us a challenge by buying them. Do you have elves in your house? And how naughty are they?

Still trying to make Christmas special, the children were excited when they unwrapped their elves today. My 7 year old has started writing a late letter to Santa, he has asked him for an iPhone. He is not getting one of them, I said to him ‘what about socks?’ He added them to his list so at least Santa has got one thing right. I keep thinking that I am nearly there but then I think of something else that I need to buy. The expense of Christmas is not over yet.

As you can see I started Elf on the shelf a little late but, a nice set for a young child and yes due to being 20 days too late these were reduced in B and M Bargains.

I need to find them a home on Christmas eve where they can hide for the year. I need to get inventive with the story telling. We only have four days left, next year we can have more fun with them and start December the 1st.

Both children refused to read this evening but we went over my son’s spellings again before bed. He did very well and hopefully tomorrow he will do well in his test. They both ate their dinners despite my 5 year old climbing for chocolate on crackers whilst it was cooking.

They went straight to bed tonight after listening to a story, though bedtime did get a bit late with the excitement of the elves.  Tomorrow is their last day at school until the new year. Daddy is only off on Christmas day and boxing day next week. I am looking forward to having time together and making some memories. We still have the Grinch to watch and I am sure there are other films on Netflix we can see, plus maybe we can walk to town next week.

Tomorrow I have the normal scenario of taking the kids to school, then finishing the shopping. Saturday I have mince pies to make and daddy home so the festivities can start. I like Christmas day, it is the build-up to it and the stress that I do not like. Once we reach January we can relax a bit and then start preparing for Christmas 2019 in the sales.

Anyway, I am now going to go, get some rest ready for tomorrow and the stress of being mum.
