To all those Shielded from COVID -19
This was written in the early morning, 12.30am after a stressful day. It was the 22nd June that we learnt that the government would be pausing shielding on the 1st August. If you have read my previous post, (A need to be liberated, cry for freedom), you will have learnt how hard I’m finding it. We are all shielding because of my husbands medical conditions.
The shielded
We are the many shielded, stuck at home today,
Hoping that this virus will please just go away.
Some of us are anxious, worried and alone,
While others, wait for carers and for loved ones to phone. In the UK over two million, with all different conditions,
All relying on deliveries to support our need for nutrition.
Through the people writing on Facebook, those that can go out,
We are here stuck at home, what are they talking about?Social distance
Advice of social distance, two metres please stay away,
Now they want to reduce it, that was the news today.
Shifting the rules for the economy, yes, it is a worry,
But what about the R rate? This virus isn’t in a hurry. If it can get you easier, well it certainly will,
Reducing social distance may make more people ill.
As we watch people wear their masks, we are hoping for the best,
For the R rate to continue down, our worries need to rest. From last week all our wondering if will the shielding be extended,
And here we are now, that painful wait has ended.
Is 1st August, back to work, just a little bit too soon?
We will watch the figures now, it’s only 23rd June. The goal posts
The goalposts they keep changing, is our misery soon ending?
When will this vaccine appear? How soon will it be pending?
It needs to be reliable and they need to get it right,
For now, I feel dubious, is the end really in sight? They talk of pausing shielding, they might un pause it later,
For all of us, how long will shielding really matter?
As they research through our illnesses our different conditions,
Our lives are upside down in our different situations.Medical conditions
Who will be long time shielded? Which condition does this virus love?
The scientists do their research as we pray to God above.
Please I hope this virus will soon just go away,
I want to go back to freedom, no worry to go out for the day.So, to all the shielders, stay together and stay strong,
Continue supporting each other, you really can’t go wrong.
Here we are together, together through thick and thin,
For all of us, we must not let this Corona virus win.For more see my other blog, life in the time of a pandemic and writing

Life in the time of COVID – 19
Stuck indoors this is the new thing,
Not going anywhere because of COVID – 19.
Following rules and listening to Boris Johnson,
Trying so hard to support the nation.Home schooling
Since March life has completely turned around,
Working from home and getting home school of the ground.
Never I thought that I would teach about the Anglo Saxons,
The Vikings, St George, world’s oceans and plastic pollution.Discovering how poor I really am at Mathematics,
Fractions and decimals, time tables causes me dramatics.
Learning online with Oak National Academy,
This time we won’t forget and it’s effects on our mentality.Never before have we had a time like this,
Home schooling and working for the NHS.
Evenings for me used to be time to relax,
Now I often feel tired, anxious and stressed.Reading through Face book the latest virus news,
The high amount of deaths and different people’s views.
Should children return to school now or in September?
Or ignore your fears and send them as an NHS Keyworker?Conflicts
Different people voicing conflicting opinions,
Fuelling our fears and our nervous decisions.
For me, my shopping is now primarily on line,
But for some the high street continues to be fine. For some they booked leave to go to Primark,
Me I’m happy at home, not interested in that lark.
COVID -19 has brought a new normal,
We now have to live with it, worry and all.Working from home, I love Microsoft Teams,
Team meetings are easy, sharing info a dream.
I can now attend comfy in slippers and pyjamas,
This morning I wondered who else was dressed like this. The world is enjoying the lower pollution,
We need to consider this as we reset the nation.
As we wait for a vaccine and watch the R rate,
We need to work together to help our world and bring the virus’s fate. For more see, Home schooling during the COVID – 19 pandemic

Our changed world poetry
The world
The world is quiet, a new strange calm,
People staying indoors, scared of coming to harm.
Cars are now just sitting on drives,
As people now lead different lives. No longer racing for the morning bus,
Now staying at home, with lap top, no fuss.
The children are now home from school,
And mum is trying to set the rules.Sitting working, but watching the kids,
A parent can be successful at this.
With the help of a maths app and a cool pc,
The children can be kept calm and busy.It was March that this change came to the UK,
And now it’s here, it’s not going away.
Never before have people been told to stay at home,
I’m so glad for social media and our telephones. Our children are growing up right now,
They will forever remember what happened and how.
The Chinese Wet Market in Wuhan,
Was that really where this all began? The children
The children are now drawing rainbows,
All part of our memories and makes our hearts glow.
All our praises go to our NHS and keyworkers,
They are all working hard in an effort to save us.So, everyone now please look after your families,
Stay indoors, obey lock down, care for your babies.
Maybe have a picnic in your front room,
Or make the chairs into a rocket and fly to the moon.Trying to think of ways to pass the day,
Bringing in inventive ways for creativity and play.
Make the most of this time that’s been given to us,
It’s not going soon, this Corona virus is in no rush.We are not sure when the lock down will end,
But on one thing you really can depend.
The NHS workers are fighting for you,
There’s not enough clapping that we can do.For they will continue to fight to the finish,
Brave and steadfast, their care won’t diminish.
This corona virus has become our life’s big feature,
However, we need to see the bigger picture. Our world around us
Whilst the NHS and Keyworkers are caring for us,
Our planet is loving the difference, loving the less rush.
The effects of planes, ships and of the many cars,
Earth’s destruction had gone too far.Looking up now the sky is deep blue,
It’s beautiful, lock down was a good thing to do.
Throughout this disaster we need to see the positive,
Reflect on the good, no longer on the negative. So, hug your children and play your games,
Home school and work, we will never live this again.
Keep your scrapbooks and write your diaries,
And look after your families, and try not to worry. For more see, A worldwide pandemic poetry
