To my dad – finding inner Strength
Sitting here, watching you,I wonder what I can do.The tears they fall, my heart it breaks,A stranger in me, the pain awakes.Thinking of you, the times I treasure,All the memories, our love, no pressure.Father and daughter, a big part of my world,Your love forever I will uphold. From here on in, I’m feeling broken,I think about the words we’ve spoken. You wouldn’t want me to hurt and worry,I need to be positive, rise up, stop feeling sorry. All I can do now is think of you,And all the pain you are going through.A day at a time, I always say,Projecting the future is too much, just focus on today. So, I need to keep going, stop feeling the frailty,Losing someone dear, is life, that’s meant to be.Keep on going with life’s great mission,I must keep focused on my vision.Find my strength to understand,That life and death go hand and hand.I love you and I always will,And life for now it continues still.Thoughts
This was written one morning walking home from school. I texted it to myself on my mobile phone. Dad never heard it because he said it would make him cry and he was crying enough. He died on the 8th November 2020, about ten weeks after being diagnosed with stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. After his first hospital admission we found he was too unwell for Chemotherapy. The illness took over and too quickly took our lovely dad away from our family. For months I have worried about the pandemic and helped to shield my family. Then came the rule of six and feeling that I could not visit him whenever I wanted to, now he has gone I regret following the rules. I just want to see him and hold him again. This has been a really rubbish year! For more see – Loss of my lovely dad and my writing(If anyone knows why Word press is not letting me leave a space every four lines of the poem, please let me know, thankyou. There is a space on the document before publishing). -
Fragility and strength poetry
Inner Strength
Finding inner strength, it really is not easy,
As life all round keeps working to defeat me.
Stresses of school and stresses of work,
Throughout our lives we can often be left hurt.
Being left hurt and being left here fragile,
Words can sometimes hit us, powerful like a missile.
A child at school, will grow, learning gaining knowledge,
Getting stronger daily and developing hope and courage.
Experiences
As we get older, our experiences shape and mould,
Some believe our futures are already foretold.
We need to keep on working, just keep pushing through,
We all must try and focus on what we need to do.
Looking around at the world around me,
The wildlife and the flowers, the joy to be free.
Needing to be strong, working to not be weak,
A day at a time and we will have the courage we seek.

Fragility
As the petals they fall from the rose,
The lover sees it and she knows.
Giving your love and giving your heart,
From the person with you, you can’t depart.
The thistles on the rose are always very sharp,
As pretty as it is, its stem it can really hurt,
The blood red flower is beauty, its love not meant to deceiving,
Though for some the rose can sometimes be misleading.
Our hearts
We leave our hearts open to those that we love,
Making us able to feel hurt and need hope from above.
To those that we need and those we care for,
As weakness turns to strength as our hearts we outpour.
We give our hearts to others, we trust them not to break it,
Too often we’re left crying as our love it doesn’t make it.
Our heart it can be shattered, like broken fractured glass,
But in time for all of us, the pain will ease or pass.

Life’s strength’s and weaknesses
Strength
The tree stands majestic on top of the hill,
Its branches stretching to the sky, never still.
The wind it blows, it lets out a cry,
Its strength relentless, it will not die.
The storm it howls and the trees they sway,
The leaves furnish a carpet, on the floor they lay.
Rain is powerful, it lashes and thrashes,
It soaks me through and today my hopes it dashes.
Love
Hopes and fears, not wanting to do wrong,
In this world we somehow all belong.
Our strengths and weaknesses make us still,
With love, our plans we hope to fulfil.
Here I am, my heart happy in the sun,
Not wanting to be weak, wanting to have fun.
So much is always running through my head,
I try and hide my fears, my inner dread.
We all need strength as we all may feel weak,
Sometimes its comfort that we hunt and seek.
Whether another person or just a warm mug of tea,
A need to be alone with a book and your own company.
Being with others
All around us there really is just so much,
We need to be with others, feel others touch.
Strength and weakness, they go hand and hand,
We all need to live together and try and understand.
So, next time you are sat crying deep in despair,
It is normal to have thoughts of how it isn’t fair.
As the trees and the weather, the world it shows its power,
It’s for us to stand up to it, be the hero of the hour.
Strength and weakness
Strength and weakness, fragility it can keep us tired,
Easily hurt and relentless pain can keep us wired.
Working so hard to stay brave and strong,
Trying to get things right determined to not be wrong.
So, we need to keep on going, living day by day,
Go out and be strong, let the fears hide and go away.
Watching life around us and the trees swaying in the breeze,
It’s for us to work together and consider other’s needs.
