    Boxing day poetry

It is a day to remember, for it is the 26th December, otherwise known as Boxing day.  A ‘Christmas box’ is a Christmas present in the UK.

There are different theories of why Boxing day is so called.  One theory is that traditionally in Britain it is the servants day off.  It is the day that they were given their ‘Christmas box’ by their master and went home to see their families. They would then give ‘Christmas boxes’ to them, hence the name of boxing day.

So how is our day going to be today?

Well, our kids are awake and playing with toys,
They really are making a lot of noise.
Grandma is due and dinner is cooking,
The chocolate is being eaten when no one is looking.

    Sneaky trips to the kitchen,
A box of biscuits has already been eaten.
These two days are a time for treats,
With love, joy and family and with plenty to eat.

Christmas is a special time, a time for celebration,
With compassion and love and for some congratulation.
A time for family and friends to be together,
Despite the stress that families bring and bad weather.

So on this day here we are,
The children’s trains are not going far.
Round and round and round their track,
Up the hill and round and back.

How is your boxing day going? The festivities of the season,
The thoughts, the rhyme and the reason.
Did your children eat their Christmas dinner?
Our children refused, fish fingers would have been a winner.

Are other children as difficult as ours can be?
As they sing and dance around the Christmas tree.
With such adorable love and joy,
We do really love our girl and our boy.

So a happy boxing day to one and all,
Around the corner, a new year calls.
    With a goodbye to 2018,
The new year is still to be seen.

    Christmas day poetry

It’s Christmas morning and Santa has been,
The children’s faces are a sight to be seen.
As they come into our room, dragging their sacks,
They climb into our bed and we can no longer lie and relax.

Then there’s the presents under the tree,
The children are now as excited as can be.
Will he get the train he wants? Will she get that doll?
For mum and dad the stress is building and taking it’s toll.

Mum and Dad are now sorting out the food,
Mixing the stuffing, entering into the mood.
Parsnips and carrots, brussel sprouts and broccoli,
Chipolatas, bacon, gravy, bread sauce and turkey.

After dinner everyone has had their fill,
The amount of food eaten, makes us feel ill.
The main course, the starter, the Christmas pudding,
Everyone enjoys mum and dad’s cooking.

So into the afternoon, who will fall asleep?
Will dad be snoring in his chair? Sitting in a heap.
Will the children still be bouncing off the walls?
Or will they now answer when mum calls?

Christmas day is always filled with delight,
With its good moments, sunny and bright.
The stress and hard work, the ups and downs of the season,
It is always important to remember that we do this for a reason.

It’s not just about buying lots of new toys,
To put happy smiles on our girls and our boys.
Or buying mum that all important gift,
Not wanting to cause an impossible rift.

On this day we must always remember,
The cute boy child lying in a manger.
Mary and Joseph and the three wise men,
The donkey, the shepherds, the sheep in a pen.

The children’s nativity is always a hoot,
As parents watch their offspring looking cute.
Willing them to speak up more loudly,
Whether they are a King or a Shepherd or Joseph or Mary.

So on this Christmas day it is time to say,
Hope you are all having a really lovely day.
Happy Christmas to all my family and friends,
Relax and enjoy the day and sleep well at the end.

    Christmas Eve poetry

It is a cold Christmas Eve and the children are busy,

Filled with excitement, with joy they are merry.

Mum is baking, mince pies and sausage rolls,

Thinking of the goodies and love that Christmas holds.

The cake, the company and the glee,

The smiley faces around the Christmas tree.

On Christmas Eve, Santa and his reindeer are ready,

To fly around the world, deliver toys, maybe a teddy.

Is snow forecast? Will Christmas be white?

For it is certainly cold outside tonight.

The long holiday, family time and laughter,

Families together and board games to be argued over.

    The disappointment of presents, hard-earned,

The queues in the shops of gifts returned.

Some people give vouchers and some people really shop,

How much time is wasted? as to the shops, we hop.

A nice sparkly gift sat under the tree,

A welcoming sight for all to see.

So on Christmas Eve is the anticipation,

With the excitement of Christmas day filling through the nation.

First with the love and the hard work of Santa,

His reindeer and sleigh as they spread love and laughter.

The smiles and the love of the girls and boys,

As on Christmas morning, they open their toys.

So on this Christmas Eve mum is making her pies,

Have a good Christmas this year, enjoy it, mum sighs.

To all my family and friends I wish you no fear,

Happy Christmas to all and a happy new year.
