My trip to Miami and the Everglades
Written in response to Laci’s blog – mcgeetraveltales.com – Travel moment contest
It is very hard for me to define a favourite travel moment, especially to limit it to 200 words only.
In 2006 we went to Orlando, Florida. Whilst there we went on a coach trip to Miami and the Everglades. We will never forget this trip as it was really amazing!

From the palm trees to the swimming pool to Randy the bar man, who I’m not going to picture here but I do have his photograph.

The Everglades and the crocodiles, really were fantastic!

We also took the boat for a tour around the marina and saw the celebrities houses. I also held a snake but again could not upload the photo due to the man pictured behind me.

Also of course we visited the hard rock café and we still have the Hurricane glasses.

Taking the coach to Miami and the Everglades really made our Florida trip memorable.
As an adult the experience of holding a baby crocodile was so much better then meeting Mickey Mouse. This could be defined as my favourite travel moment but the whole trip was fantastic!

Friday and tired and glum

Today is Friday and i’ve been feeling glum,
Sitting feeling sorry for myself feeling tired and done.
I’ve been sat here looking at the winter weather,
Whilst trying to read The Foreigner. a book by Stephen Leather.
A few days ago I managed to buy the film with Jackie Chan,
It has some subtitles but is in English, I am a real huge fan.I sat and read but with the tiredness I just wanted to sleep,
The pages blurred and I gave up, before I got to deep.
So soon there I was with thoughts going around my head,
Lying there, comfortable feeling warm in my bed.
Sleep soon filled my head with dreams and then they were disturbed
As Alexa then rang the alarm bell, I really felt quite perturbed.I got up and looked at my daughter’s untidy room,
The mess is not inviting, it is a mess again too soon.
Teddy bears, toys and clothes all scattered on the floor,
It is an obstacle course to reach the wardrobe doors.
Why will our 5 year old not tidy her mess?
Instead of mummy feeling upset and distressed. My day was soon over and I had to collect the children,
Had to drive to school then stand and wait before I could take them.
Our daughter was really happy, as proudly our little leader,
Told me her reading has improved and she’s now on Accelerated Reader.
The excitement of the reading was then doubled by our son,
Who is doing well with his numbers and finding them real fun.Once home I really hoped that they would tidy their rooms,
Our son he did protest but he did not refuse.
My daughter she looked at it but then she stood and cried,
Happy to climb over her toy mountain, wanting to play and hide.
The children they will so rarely do as they are told,
As I stand here, watching them, feeling grey and old.So here we are and the kids still have their messy rooms,
They are now both asleep and morning will be here all too soon.
The weekend will bring homework and more arguments and stress,
The work goes on, so busy, no time for mum to rest.
Tomorrow will bring washing and Sunday then the ironing,
A mum’s job is never done, I rarely feel I’m winning.I hope we can have some quality time and spend some time together,
Make some happy memories our ties we will never sever.
Playing with the lego or maybe with the train’s,
Maybe we will go outside if it doesn’t rain.
The homework it still needs to be completed,
Despite all the stress it presents, we will not be defeated. So now it is late, I’m going to find my bed,
Hoping sleep will ease the pain in my head.
Tomorrow I hope will be a better day,
So as they say, i’m now going to bed and hit the hay.
Sitting here now writing my poetry,
I’m feeling calm and quiet, now it’s time for me.For more see, Another long Wednesday

10 ideas for your new year, new resolutions and a new you

So here we are beginning of a new year. Time for new resolutions maybe to get fit, to maybe quit smoking and drink less. My resolution this year is to try and be more positive and focus on the future, not the past. Here are some ideas of things that may help you reach your goals, ideas for a new you.
- Exercise can be difficult when you are a working mum. For the new year new trainers may be needed as well as motivation. The urge to just sit, we all know this feeling as the kids are bouncing around the front room. Walking is a good activity for you as well as for them.
- Clothes, maybe jogging bottoms to go for a run in, Time alone whilst dad has the children.
- New wellies for you and for the children for time spent playing in mud or maybe in the garden or walking around the woods.
- A new coat ready to face the new year weather.
- Maybe you are thinking now about activity that you can do indoors. These dumbells could be used in front of the television or as part of an exercise regime.
- If exercise is not on your mind but relaxing is, maybe a new Kindle Paperwhite might be the answer, Amazon are also offering a trial of Kindle unlimited (America) Kindle Unlimited (UK) which Is worthwhile having, especially with a new kindle.
- Shifting the mum blues may include coffee and a new mug
- Maybe tea is more your drink. Tea is my number one favourite, especially after a long day
- Now may be the year that you start to write down your thoughts in a note book. Journaling can be good to get your negative thoughts out of your head on to paper. Then reflect and try and change them to positive.
- A good book , one of my favourite authors is Stephen King. Other authors to consider are fellow bloggers, Debra Purdy Kong who writes crime novels and the poetry of Ritu Bhathal. Other blogging authors include Darlene Foster and Stevie Turner. There are many published authors amongst the blogging community.
These are just some ideas for a new you. I am sure there are many more. Shifting the stress of work and of being mum is important. As a stressed mum I often forget this. My Kindle is sat by my bed waiting for me to pick it up and read.
So what are your new years resolutions? have you made any?
