Fixing a mess
Today is the end of the week and my day off. A day where I should be able to put my feet up and do nothing. This is not the case, my children like to make me jobs. My morning started as normal apart from me not setting my alarm, so Alexa did not wake me. At 6.45am I was woken by daddy asking if I was getting up, not a good start. The children had to dress as scarecrows for Halloween which meant my son could wear his ripped jeans to school which pleased him. I have wanted to put them in the dust bin for months but he is attached to them. It was a good excuse to dress as two scruffs and they had fun. The classes all made scarecrows and they were scattered around the school grounds. My little girl was very excited to point one out to me, the teachers had put a lot of work into creating a good day for the children.
I mentioned in Tuesday’s blog that I had repainted some of my little girls bedroom wall that she had scribbled on. When it dried I noticed that it looked a different shade. I have been confused as only remember purchasing one pot of yellow paint. Well today I went into the garage to find the lilac paint to paint over the scribble on her lilac wall. Whilst there I found another pot of yellow, so I took them both into the house. I then proceeded to repair the damage again, it then occurred to me that while I had the other shade of yellow paint I could fix the damage to the stairs. Three years ago we had a strip of wall paper running down the stairs against a plain yellow wall. My daughter aged about two decided to start pulling the paper off. This led to all the paper coming off leaving a dark yellow line on the wall. Why do children do that? My little girl loves to wreck and break things. The paper looked nice on the wall till she started pulling it off, she had then drawn on the wall which I had tried washing and rubbing off. This had not worked, so now I have repainted it. We now have two different shades of yellow but it looks a lot better then it did. It is very hard to keep things looking nice when you have children.
A productive day and it is nice to see my handiwork, however typically nobody noticed the difference when we got home. Shows just how much we had got used to the dark yellow line and the scribbled on wall.
On collecting the children from school they had both had a good day, both came out eating sweets. Why do schools give children sweets? They were happy, mummy not as much. My 5 year old kindly gave me a piece of chocolate cake from a paper towel which she would not let me refuse, by the time we reached the car both were a sticky mess.
It was a relief to get home, especially as they disappeared upstairs to play, leaving me to sort out the washing. However they made a mess of my 7 year olds bedroom scattering Lego all over the carpet. Tonight I left them in their beds at 7.30, over an hour later they were back in my sons bedroom playing again with the Lego. I’m sure that will be a lovely mess for me to tidy in the morning. Asking them to tidy up after they have played usually ends in an argument and then both refusing to help. I’m hoping this gets easier as they get older. Would be so nice to have two kids that tidy their own rooms. At the moment they know that mum will do it as I can not bear to leave it a mess for to long.
So now we are nearly at the weekend and we have a week off together. Trying to make plans but not sure what we are doing yet, the children need to be kept busy. Often after a weeks leave I go back to work for a rest as they can be demanding. However I am looking forward to the quality time and making some memories.

My twin boys are 8, so I feel your frustration. But it does get better–with bribes and cajoling and punishments! Mine are in love with video games, so it’s a good way to get them to do their chores. Here’s hoping you get some time for YOU this weekend. And the blogging group is a good support network, too.

Thankyou Rebecca, my two respond to bribes but not to well. If he had a biscuit to tidy the Lego he would do half a job. I’m often the baddie handing out the punishments, iPad has been confiscated many times but daddy always gives in and he gets it back. Thanks so much for your comment.
