The work day is over – Poetry
The work day is over, I just want to sleep,
But instead of bed, I’m active, a mother’s job to keep.
Pulling the weeds out in the garden,
While my daughter tries to help me.
Dragging out the brambles, I’m scratched and hurt,
So tired, just want to sit with a mug of tea.The commitments that we all have,
I can rarely just relax.
The washing, the cooking and the cleaning,
Where do I find time for reading?
Filling the green bin with weeds is fulfilling,
For once maybe with the garden, I’m winning. The work week has dragged by slowly,
I’m feeling so very busy.
The ongoing daily routine,
The things a mother has seen.
Kids to school and us to work,
My legs and body right now hurt.So I have one more day on my own,
Before a week with the kids at home.
I was planning to relax but now I have the garage to sort,
Kids toys and child seats, a sentiment that can’t be bought.
To tidy and keep or throw away,
Confusing but my heart wants it all to stay.Every day we all get older, not all getting stronger,
Making the most of the time we have, the days do not get longer.
The challenges life presents us,
The twists and turns, sometimes life feels a mess.
We all work on and try so hard,
All working for that ‘did right’ card. All the crying, their needs and wants,
All their pleading, their love and haunts.
No one said that parenting is easy,
The demanding challenges and mystery.
The ongoing questioning, being a role model,
This parenting lark is hard, it isn’t a doddle.Juggling our work and life,
Being a mum and a loving wife.
Demands of family and of home,
There are times when I want to be alone.
Working hard, sometimes struggling,
Trying to get everything done.School holidays are around the corner,
Plans to make, the weather is getting warmer.
Keeping them busy, keeping up with their talking,
Being active a lot of walking.
I need to be strong and spend the time,
Keep them from technology and have some fun.Exhaustion from work and from life,
Homework, reading, trouble and strife.
Living and working, afraid to fall,
Working hard, wanting it all.
Some things in life will always be hard,
And sometimes we will never want to part. The ups and downs of a working mum,
Balancing life, balancing work and fun.
Working together, working as a team,
Trying our best to live life’s dream.
So, on with life and roll on next week,
To spend time with the children, little time to think. For more see, Being mum, the work never stops

Being mum, the work never stops
The work never stops, when being mum,
It just goes on with some pleasure, some fun.
The homework and the endless demands,
While we continue running life’s errands.Cycling around the garden on their bikes,
Digging in the dirt, damaging my flowers as they like.
Jumping on my homely garden bench,
They also like to climb the garden fence. The most fulfilling job in the world,
It is the hardest job I’ve ever held.
Long hours and a lot of stress,
However, of all jobs, this one is the best. You sit as a child and imagine your future,
Tired of your teachers, surely it’s human nature.
If I knew then what I know now,
I would have worked harder, done better somehow.A childhood enjoyed with my roller boots and climbing trees,
Riding my bike, playing in the long grass, I really felt free.
The times that I slacked on my work and projects,
Hiding in the toilets rather than attending mathematics. The subjects I should have worked on that didn’t seem important,
My maths and my sciences I really should have worked on.
Sociology and psychology have not really got me far,
I once had dreams of singing, becoming a pop star.Would I have succeeded? I will never know.
If I’d studied music and not let go.
Where would I be? What would I be doing?
If I had followed my dreams, instead of all the playing.I could be a famous star or just earning a higher salary,
Needing to focus on my life, focus on me.
As an adult looking back now it is all too late,
I now have my children, my job, enough on my plate. So, watching the kids now enjoying their time.
My frustration to help them, their futures are on the line.
Not wanting them to make the same mistakes as me,
I want them to feel fulfilled, connected and free.To be able to live and do as you like,
Supporting your family with holidays, maybe go for a hike.
Weighing up the importance of play,
They are happy, just for today.I am thankful that we did not have Roblox and Mine craft,
My little boy is hooked, he finds them a laugh.
We had the joys of Paperboy and Bomb jack,
The ZX Spectrum computer was our life hack. For all the time that I spent on them though,
My books came first, my reading, it showed.
Now kids are spending so long on their tablets,
It’s not just their eyes that are being affected.Pleading with my kids to just read a book,
To use their imagination, to open it and take a look.
Maybe as time goes by, my worries they will cease,
As the kids grow older their knowledge will increase. Two clever kids with their whole lives ahead,
With a concerned stressed mum, willing them to do as she’s said.
Through life, we all make our own mistakes,
And right now, these kids are taking a break. From singing on the bench and in the classroom,
Writing my own lyrics, it was over too soon.
Lack of confidence and life it soon took over,
All too quickly I learnt to surrender.Giving in to what life held in store for me.
My husband and kids were my destiny.
The paid job I have now, I am very pleased to say,
There are times when people tell me that I’ve made their day.So, in life, we can only do our best,
Right now, being mum is putting me to the test.
I love and adore them, they mean the world to me.
They melt my heart, they make me cry, they make me so happy.Being mum is the best job in the world,
And despite my mistakes, I have the kids to hold.
Looking back through my life I’m focusing on the positive,
Life’s too short to focus on the negative. So best wishes to all of you, all the parents out there.
We all have our lives and stories to share.
We have all learnt from the mistakes we have made,
From rules, we have dismissed and plans delayed.Enjoy your children while they are young,
Support and encourage, enjoy helping with their sum’s.
Nurture and develop, their confidence will grow,
As your nurturing seeds will help them glow. For more see, Mother’s day today poetry

Bikes and chocolate and my children
Another weekend, another Saturday and time for bikes and chocolate. Easter is officially over, however my five year old, ate the ears and nose of Alfie bunny for her breakfast. Yes, now a sad looking chocolate rabbit. It’s amazing that she still has him to eat. My seven year old, consumed most of his the day he was given it. The kids do love their chocolate.

It has been a dry but chilly day here, no gardening achieved but the children have been outside playing on their bikes. Today I bought my short nearly 8 year old a 24 inch wheeled Ridgeback bike. I didn’t think he would be able to touch the floor. He can, and he can control it well too. It is a lightweight bike but I had in mind that it would need to be stored away for Christmas. So, be warned, if your child is turning eight and needs a new bike, have a look at the 24 inch before you buy a 20 inch.
Now watching my short five year old, nearly six on her 16 inch wheeled bike, the wheels look so small. She can ride my son’s heavy 20 inch bike, however, I’m sure she would much rather have a girls bike when the time comes. Looking on eBay and Facebook for a lightweight bike in the local area, I’m telling myself she can wait because her current bike is lovely and her seat is still right down. Plenty of growing room yet.

One disadvantage of having a boy and a girl, it is not as easy to hand down bikes. I’m grateful for Facebook and eBay.
Also, to bear in mind, if you are buying your child a new bike. The 24 inch bike I bought today weighs about 12.5kg, it has an aluminium frame. There is a nice looking 24 inch bike, half the price in Argos, but it weighs over 15kg. His 20 inch wheeled bike, weighs 14.1kg and that’s heavy! I was surprised that my daughter can handle it. A lighter bike will be more expensive, but weight is something to bear in mind over a Halfords or Argos bike. Many people will promote Islabikes as they are very light. They have a good resell value, but they are very expensive.
After a long busy week, I have achieved very little. I’m trying to do camp Nano, aiming for 20000 words this month, I’m very nearly there.
Being tired and busy is not helping my creativity this week. Trying to write about time travel is proving confusing. I’m starting to doubt myself. The urge to get a roll of wallpaper and plan the novel properly does seem like a good idea. Trying to work from the dinosaurs to the end of time. Then trying to decide how many years my story will allow and make some sort of sense. So, tomorrow I was thinking about taking the kids for a bike ride. Now I’ve remembered that I’ve got school uniform to iron. My seven year old still has to finish describing a picture of a rainforest. We still have to decide what my five year old is doing. Tomorrow is going to be a fight between their homework and their bikes and chocolate.
How has your week been? Did or do your children love their bikes and chocolate? Mine can spend hours riding around the garden in circles. I can remember as a child also riding around the garden. I have not told my children, but we used to line up blocks of wood and create obstacle courses. We would then ride over and around them. I think my parents gave up on stopping us and I’m guessing we probably left them to tidy up after us. It’s a shame that I have no photos of our garden fun. The fun of being a child on a bike.
