Back to school tomorrow

Here we are another Sunday, clocks went back this morning so we have gained an hour. This meant though that both children were up at 6 am, demanding daddy to get out of bed. Why can’t they just stay in their rooms till we come and get them? How many years away is it till they do? Yesterday morning as I lay here writing my blog I became aware of movement in the room. My 5 year old was balancing on a chair climbing the bookcase I asked her what she was up to, “nothing” she said. I was suspicious but to warm and comfortable under my duvet to get up and have a look. She then returned a while later, back balancing on the chair. I turned to her and told her to “just get down” at that she jumped down. Well, when I finally submitted my blog entry and got out of bed I went into her room. I found blonde and pink sparkly hair on her bed. My first thought was that she had cut her own hair, she is good at that trick. Then she said “no look mummy”. I then realised that Barbie and her My little pony had had a haircut. I was not pleased, but what can you say? the damage had been done, at least they were not bald. My daughter seems to love ruining things, not sure if the destruction is accidental or planned. To her I guess Barbies’ hair is improved, she has ponies that she has cut their tails right off, makes it difficult to know what to get her for birthdays and Christmas.
Today we have my nieces 6th birthday party, my sister has hired a hall. My children love to run and make nuisances of themselves so I’m sure they will have fun. It is a unicorn party, my 5 year old has a dress with unicorns on it to wear, my 7 year old has his normal clothes. It has occurred to me that we could make him a unicorn horn but I think it would very quickly get lost. We do have an age 7 – 8 white unicorn onesie but it belongs to my little girl when she grows into it, so I don’t want it ruined by my son at a party. My sister normally lays on a nice spread of food, I’m expecting it to be good and maybe a little break as the kids will be off playing. My niece has a special unicorn cake which is lovely, see photo below.

So as well as today’s party I still have ironing to do for work tomorrow. Two kids to bath and then dress. I need to hear both kids read and my 5 year old has some writing homework. Yes, we should have done this beginning of the week but the kids refused, they were to busy playing and hey we had the whole week ahead. This week we have achieved to much time on their electronic gadgets. A walk to the barber’s and a haircut, a shopping trip for pumpkins and a rug washed after ice cream was dropped on it. Losing the car keys and then finding them again. A new oven and a lot of screaming and shouting. Loud noise to entertain or irritate the neighbours. Lots of washing done and put away. The lawn still needs to be mowed and we have spent zero time reading and doing school work so we have failed there, but then it is supposed to be a holiday from school. More reading would be good though, it is a plan of mine to read to them, then maybe they can read bits, try and make reading enjoyable, not a chore.
Anyway, I am now going to get up, find food and coffee, maybe get the ironing done for tomorrow and reading. Then bath the children and start to get ready for today’s party. The kids meanwhile are in their rooms making a mess and a lot of noise. I’m sure when I ask my 7 year old to read to me, we will have an argument. All part of the joys and the work of being mum.

oh dear, man flu is not good. My 7 year old is refusing to read and I still need to do my ironing – procrastination is bad!
