The holiday is nearly over
Thursday morning and everyone is watching television. Peace and quiet around the house. Highlights of yesterday run through my head. Last year we went to Yorkshire on holiday and we visited some castles. The kids loved them as they could run around. In the gift shop they both wanted a sqidgey ball and for the last year these balls have been played with and enjoyed. Yesterday there was a scream “my sister has broken my ball”. She had made a hole in it and pulled out the slimy inside. She was laughing as she was running it over her feet. We confiscated the slime and it went in the bin, consequently lots of tears. So that was the end of my 7 year old’s ball. We do not know where her’s is to give to him, but then he didn’t want purple, he wanted his own, in green. Why are children so destructive? Why ruin their siblings toys?
Below is another toy that my daughter got on holiday. It once had a bell inside. Months ago she pulled out the bell and then a bit later ripped it’s head off. She loved that bear, as you can see she is holding it, but now totally destroyed. Why do children do that? I think I was the most upset when it finally went in the bin as she pulled it apart completely.
The oven was replaced yesterday and we had sausages cooked under the grill last night for dinner. The flame did not go out once, so hopefully all is okay now and the engineer won’t need to be called back out for years in the future, if ever.
Today I really need to take my 7 year old for a haircut. He has a mass of blonde hair on his head that I’m sure he is not happy about. It is very cute, I like thick hair, but I don’t think he would let me grow it long. “Pony tails are for girls” The barber will always give him a lollipop and he will always ask for one to give to his sister. They love each other despite their arguments and broken toys.
My 5 year old’s hair seems to stay the same length. She has been to a hairdresser once and that is after she cut it herself and made a complete mess. A few weeks ago, the kids were supposed to have gone to bed when we heard a scream from our little girl and then footsteps. They had been playing with scissors (don’t know where they found them, the kids get everywhere so impossible to really hide things from them). Her brother had cut her fringe very short. This was after we had given it a trim trying to ensure that it was a straight line and not to short, just above her eyes. So now she virtually has no fringe. To make matters worse, she is very accident prone and she carries her war wounds on her forehead. Now they are all exposed for the world to see, to top that school photos were the following week so when they arrive back they are going to be a lasting memory of the incident. My son is never going to be allowed to forget it.
We have had quite a lazy week so far, we always do more when daddy is at work. This is because after leaving him at work for 7.30 am we are already, up, dressed and have had breakfast. So easier to say “right kids lets do such and such”. When daddy is home they want to spend time with daddy which is fair enough, but daddy does not want to walk to town, walk round woods, walk round the cathedral or see castles. Is anyone else’s husband like mine? very little motivation to do anything. However to be fair he always gets up early with the kids, where I prefer to lie in bed, so he is good really.
Anyway my coffee is calling me and I am hungry. After that I will then consider walking my son to the barber’s. I might buy a pumpkin from Morrison’s on the way back. I’m sure he will like to help carve it, we can then make a Pumpkin pie. It’s something we only have once a year at Halloween. It’s the only thing that I like about Halloween, I’m not keen on trick or treat. We like bonfire night though and fireworks. The kids get a bit scared but as they are getting older they are fearing them less. Anyway I’m now going to join the rest of my family and get back to being mum.
