Washing the Flokati rug

20181024_131051Well I have washed the Flokati rug, with the help of my 5 year old, (see ‘After the night before’, for further explanation). The bath water went brown, the rug is filthy. It’s only when you look at it closely that you can see how dirty it is.  It is not an old rug, it was bought earlier this year. We did our best and it is not perfect. Before I bought it I read and saw video’s on you tube about how they are machine washable, this is not the case with mine.

Also of course when wet it is very heavy. I carried it through the house soaking everything. We told the kids not to run through the kitchen, just as my 5 year old slipped in a puddle. It was to heavy to throw over the washing line so it is now draped over the garden bench, dripping away.

New rules for the bedroom, shoes to be removed at the door. No food in there and definitely no ice cream and blueberries.  The rug is not perfect, the kids had stuck blue tack to it, which I found as I washed it. I hate blue tack, we have carpets ruined with it, the kids stick it everywhere.

So has anyone else washed one of these rugs and had better results? There are bits still stuck to mine but I don’t really want to give it a hair cut. Washing it was like washing a shaggy dog, but I guess with the dog I would have got wetter and they would not be sat patiently drying on the garden bench.

One job ticked off, it’s not great but hopefully the ice cream is washed out. The blueberry mark is still on the back but it was washed in cold water and I don’t want to use vanish as I’m sure it is not gentle enough.
