Saturday tiredness
Being woken during the night is never fun. The number of times my 5 year old woke up crying was exhausting for both of us. My 7 year old came and woke up daddy at the normal early hour leaving me to sleep. It was much later that I woke up and found my little girl in bed on the iPod playing a game. My son was downstairs on the iPad, daddy had given in to pester power.
A little later the kids started shouting to each other. They were playing the same game and were linked up in cyberspace. Not sure what the game was but there was a lot of laughter going on. My daughter spent the whole day in bed, snuggled up under her duvet. She plays the sick child very well which was lovely for us. She did not ask to go outside once and she also did not want food, we made her some toast which she struggled to eat.
I did another load of washing and put washing away. I also got my work finished for now. With my busy night, I’ve been feeling tired all day. With feeling drained I’m now just low. When you are tired you see the world a bit different. Problems appear bigger than they really are. Stress is not good for me, stress I think does affect how the body works. Maybe I need to start meditating. However, with the pace of my life, I’m not sure if I could make time for it. I know I need to stop, sit down and read more. Right now I’m just getting myself worked up with everything.
As a parent, we work so hard for our kids and really try to do our best by them. Today we have failed with homework as our little boy started his day on the IPad and he finished it on the IPad. Tomorrow he is not having it at all, he needs to get his work done. We also need to listen to both children read. It will be the argument in the morning when daddy tells him no iPad. Question is though will daddy be strong enough to say no?
My daughter refused her dinner tonight and she is grumpy at the moment, she looks pale. My son has been noisy, bouncy and has eaten well today. I am really hoping that he stays well because I need to go to work on Monday. Plus I hate seeing my kids ill.
Do you ever have a day when you just want to shut the world out and hide? That’s me right now. I love my family but some days everything feels too much and I sit back and question myself. My little girl was crying this evening because she wants her duvet changed. I didn’t change it today because she was in it. When I’m sat in the chair in the evening, I don’t really want to go back upstairs to change her duvet especially when the duvet she wants is in the blanket box in our bedroom under a pile of stuff. I told her no and thankfully, for now, she is quiet.
Our little boy had daddy read to him tonight. Mummy had already said goodnight. The time was ticking on and I had just had enough and needed time to just sit, so daddy went upstairs and did the bedtime reading. Our daughter was already falling asleep until she started shouting out to have her duvet changed.
Tomorrow is another long Sunday, I have ironing to do again. We have homework and reading to complete. I’m not sure what we are having for dinner because with all the drama of our daughter being unwell I completely forgot to buy a chicken, so no roast dinner tomorrow.
I also need to make room in the summer house for my palm tree and put my fleece plant coats over my cordylines at the bottom of my garden, plus bubble wrap the pots. The cordylines survived winter last year but my palm tree in its heavy terracotta pot didn’t. This year the new palm tree is in a plastic pot so I can lift it and it is kept on my patio, right next to the summer house.
We are watching ‘Seal team’again, I’m now going to get some rest so I’m more ready for the stress of Sunday and my job of being mum.

Friday sickness
Late last night I went into my little girl to check she was sleeping alright. She looked up at me crying and said, “mummy my tummy hurts”. I rubbed her tummy and felt her head, she was hot and sweaty. She then said, “mummy I’m going to be sick”. I pulled back her duvet and went to help her up. Unfortunately, we were not quick enough and she was sick over her pillow. Then again over the landing before we made it to the bathroom. After I cleaned her, changed her and sorted out her bedding she then went back to bed. She then slept through till morning.
The morning started in the normal way except I woke my daughter up as late as I could and then got her dressed. Not happy to be woken up she had a little cry. She then refused to wear her winter coat, happier in her summer one.
Once again I was left carrying the bags into school and my daughter would still not wear her warm coat. Being ill meant no spelling test today, no forest school and her homework book is still at school so that’s one less thing to argue over this weekend. My son was upset that I didn’t take him into the hall. He waved goodbye to me in the doorway looking very sad, but I couldn’t leave my daughter.
We left her brother at school, really hoping that there would not be a phone call later to come and collect him. My day was productive and I got some work done, will hopefully finish it tomorrow. My daughter spent most of the day asleep. She came down once saying she was hungry and then managed to eat a piece of toast.
I went up to her later and woke her to collect her brother from school. Again she started crying, she was now upset because her ears hurt and she wanted daddy. I got her out of bed and soon after we were on our way to collect my son. She had grabbed her Paw Patrol blanket to keep her warm in the car.
I hate it when my children are not well. As well as the extra washing due to sick, it’s horrid to see them in pain. Paracetamol did not seem to cut it today and because she had hardly eaten I was reluctant to give her Ibuprofen. Standing outside my son’s classroom, she started whining again. It was cold today which really did not help.
My 7 year old was happy because he got all his spellings right today and then upset because he got one wrong on his times’ tables. I told him that one wrong is very good, he is doing well. He gets very upset when he makes mistakes. He had some sweets as a reward which he shared with his sister.
When we got home, she put herself back to bed. My son then wanted food and to play on my kindle. A little later my daughter then came downstairs and cuddled up on my lap. It’s so nice cuddling up when they are not well however I am fearing that I will be sick as well.
She has just woken up crying, she is snuggled up under her duvet and is now running a high temperature. So now we are trying to cool her down but she wants to lie on her tummy with the duvet over her head. It makes keeping her cool difficult. If she is still as hot in the morning it could mean a phone call to NHS 111. We are hoping that paracetamol and moving the duvet back to get air into her will help to cool her down.
I’m hoping there will be no more sick this weekend but I am expecting that my little boy or myself might be sick by morning. Hence I did not serve up baked beans with tonight’s dinner as tomatoes stain and are not to easy to wash out. I made the mistake when my 5 year old was last unwell of giving her tomato soup, that was a lovely mess when it came back up.
Anyway, I am now going to get some rest. I have work to do tomorrow as well as more washing again and a sick child. Hopefully, my daughters’ temperature will have come back down and she will be feeling better. Tomorrow will be back into the weekend routine, my son has his homework to do and I will be back to the weekend stress of being mum.

Thursday sniffles
We were woken at about 3am this morning by both children wanting our attention, all we wanted was sleep. We fell back to sleep as the kids went to sleep under their duvets on the floor. The alarm went off at the usual time and wearily we all got up. My 5 year old was still coughing and sniffing. However, despite her cold, she wanted to wear socks to school. I put tights on her under protest, a while later she had taken them off and put her ankle socks on. This then led to me changing her again with her crying. It was very cold today and I could not send her to school with bare legs. I gave her some cough medicine and hoped that she would make it through the day.
Arriving at school was the same as always, except today, by the time I had unpacked the car with their bags and coats, they had run off quite a way down the road. Is it just my kids that do this? I locked the car and ran after them. My 5 year old was wearing just her school jumper, refusing to wear her coat. Her hair was a mess as well, as again she refused to let me brush it. Once in school, I left them at breakfast club and drove to my morning appointments.
I got in from work at about 14.00, just as the phone rang. It was daddy asking me where I was. I had too much work to do to go out again. The school had phoned and I hadn’t heard my phone ring as it was on silent. Consequently, they had phoned him, so he had walked to the school to collect her, then walked with her to the bus station and they had got the bus home. I think she quite enjoyed her walk and bus ride. It’s not often that she has adventures with daddy. He walked further today then he has in ages.
Once home she went straight to bed, she didn’t even take her school uniform off. Warm and snug under her duvet, she stayed there for a few hours then refused to eat her dinner tonight. She then went straight to sleep again. I am hoping that she is well enough to go to school and stay at school tomorrow.
My 7 year old had rugby today. Despite the very cold weather, they had it outside. He came home again covered in mud. I once more have his muddy plimsolls and clothes to wash. He cuddled up with daddy whilst I was working and read his book with him. They were then watching television together. It was nice that things were quiet. However, it was me that had to give him a bath and wash all the mud off.
My son wanted to go over his spellings at bedtime. He is very good but he kept spelling centre, center. I’m not sure where he has seen it spelled that way if he has. We live in the UK, not America. I think the English language is very complicated to learn. So many people speak English as a second language, I struggle with French and I’m sure that is easier than English.
Friday tomorrow, my day off, however, I have overtime work to do again. Sitting in my kitchen with my laptop. I really need my daughter to be at school otherwise I will be sitting her down with my Kindle fire and hoping that she will be quiet.
I’m sitting here under my blanket with the television off, my hands are cold as the heating did not come on this evening. It could mean another phonecall to the boiler engineers. This is not the weather to have no heating. Just another thing for me to get stressed about. It’s me that will be arranging the visit and meeting with them.
Anyway, I’m now going to stop and try and warm up under my duvet. Try and get some rest so I’m ready for my day tomorrow and my job of being mum.
